Atiyah, Edward. The Eagle Flies from England
Divergence: 1769 CE
What if: Carlo and Letizia Buonaparte fled to Britain in 1769 along with other Corsican refugees, rather than make peace with their new French overlords, and their son Napoleon was born a British subject.
Summary: For his role in the defeat of French revolutionists in 1794 and in order to prevent his sparking a new European war, General Sir Napoleon Buonaparte is created Viscount Buonaparte and appointed Governor-General of distant India. But his success there creates enemies at home and rather than accept recall, he declares Indian independence and himself emperor. He subsequently attacks Europe via the Middle East, conquering almost all until his defeat at Waterloo in 1814.
