What if: Aaron Burr was elected governor of New York and never felt compelled to challenge
Alexander Hamilton to a duel.
Summary: Burr continues his advance to power, coercing Jefferson into naming him general of all
U.S. armies and then provoking a war with Spain which results in the U.S. conquering
everything from Texas to Panama. After being elected president in 1808, Burr does even
more, acquiring Cuba, Puerto Rico and more in another war with Spain and also freeing the
slaves, digging a canal at Panama, etc.
